The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs has signed a memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the National Information System on Sexual Abusers.

The agreement was made between the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and Dredawa University.

The ministry announced that the system is designed to reduce sexual violence in the society in general and to control repeated sexual violence by individuals in particular.

It is said that this will improve the use of information on the registration of offenders and facilitate the support of sexual assault prisoners after their imprisonment.

According to the agreement, the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs will provide information needed for the development of the system in a timely manner, indicating that the policy issues, decrees and instructions related to the information system should be improved.

In addition, the ministry will analyze the report from the system as needed and use the information for policy reform, community awareness, research and prevention activities.

It is said that it is among the points included in the agreement that based on the input from the information system, it will identify areas and community sections that are frequently exposed to sexual violence and carry out awareness and prevention activities.

Months ago, it will be recalled that the BBC reported, citing the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, that Ethiopia is about to start a registration that will exclude perpetrators of sexual violence from work and social services.

It is to be remembered that it was stated at the time that the sexual assault crime registration is expected to be implemented next year and will cost 10 million birr.
