The 36-year-old Thai man, who attended school only up to the 9th grade, was found to have been performing penis enlargement treatments without a medical license for the past 20 years.
Kitkorn Songsiri, a 36-year-old resident of Samut Sakhon in central Thailand, was known to have been providing FGM without training and education in a residential home in the city for the past twenty years until he was arrested last week, Dagu Journal reported.
Although Songsiri had no medical training or license, he advertised his services on social media and admitted to treating at least two or three patients every month.
He told police he taught himself how to administer the treatment when he was 14 and has been practicing the treatment ever since.
The man was arrested because one of the people who received the treatment developed a serious infection, and the distraught patient reported it to the government authorities.
Police, working in conjunction with Department of Health officials, arranged for an undercover agent to contact the unlicensed doctor and spy on him posing as a client.
Unaware of his help, Songsiri hires a man who appears to have come for treatment to his house.
Immediately, police officers raided the place and arrested the fake doctor.
The man admitted to only completing the ninth grade when he was caught, but said he taught himself how to perform the procedure as a teenager.
During questioning, Songsiri said that it has been providing its services for the past 20 years and currently charges between 5,000 and 20,000 baht per treatment.
He was charged with running an unlicensed medical clinic and providing medical services without a license.
The client who complained suffered serious infections and erectile dysfunction after the treatment, and further legal action awaits him.
