On foreign nationals who enter Ethiopia from various countries and stay longer than the previously approved period;
The Immigration and Nationality Service announced that fines are being imposed. The agency also stated that the monitoring of foreigners found with false documents has been intensified.
The director general of the service, David David, said that there are foreign nationals who are active outside of the purpose of their arrival.
They told us that actions are being taken against those who are caught acting outside of the activities they are allowed to do when they enter the country. The director general did not mention how many foreigners were fined for violating this law.
He said, “There are those who have been given a decision not to come back to Ethiopia, starting with fines.”
The Director-General stated that the institute has included security controls on the types of visas to prevent such activities;
“Heavier penalties have been included in the revised immigration reform,” he said as Ethiopia is vast and shares a border with many countries.
He also said that a number of studies have been conducted since last year to help prevent transnational crime and avoid illegality.
