In Shola market…

Shola market used to be thronged with shoppers during the holidays, but the market atmosphere on the eve of this year’s new year is cold.

A pepper merchant said, “Shola market usually does not lose buyers. Even though there are no pepper buyers this year, the number of customers flocking to buy spices has decreased.”

First grade pepper from 450 to 480 Birr per kilo;
Second level is sold from 420 to 380 birr

Compared to 380 Birr per kilo, pepper is being sold.
Coupled with supply and other problems, prices have risen.

Korerima is one of the spices that add a unique flavor to butter, chicken stew, and is being sold for up to 1,200 Birr per kilo on New Year’s Eve this year.

Age changer is being sold in Korerima on the eve of 400 to 1,200 Birr in various shopping centers.

This type of spice was introduced in 2013.
When it was sold at 160 to 170 birr per kilo during the New Era, it was said, “It’s gone, where is life going?”

It is a recent memory that a kilo of red onion was sold at 40 Birr, 90 Birr to 120 Birr per kilo, pepper at 250 Birr per kilo and butter at various levels from 420 to 450 Birr during the 2013 New Year festival. 

Korerima was sold at 350 Birr per kilo during the same period last year.

Farang chicken is selling for 350 to 500 birr, hybrid chicken for 850 to 1,200 and Habesha chicken for 550 and more.

Merchants are selling Habesha pearls for 12 birr and Farenj pearls for 10 birr.
Lega butter is being sold at 850 birr per kilo, medium 800 birr, and cooked at 750 birr.

Onion per kilo varies from market to market.
In Shola market, it is sold from 95 to 105 Birr per kilo depending on the quality.

What is the price of stalled markets in every area?

Relatively less than other markets.

At the small stalls in Kazanchis, onions are being sold for 80 Birr per kilo, garlic for 250 Birr and less.

As compared to fixed markets, the prices of goods ranging from 50 to 100 Birr are offered at a discount. 

Five liters of Omar Oil are sold at 1,150 Birr, while the For All oil is sold at 950 Birr.

At the Millennium Hall and Exhibition Center, a five-liter bottle of Omar oil costs 1,100 Birr and other edible oils are available for sale.

Cost of exhibition centers?

In these places, it is convenient to find national clothes, furniture, edible oils, various items and other resources in one place, but the bazaars that were crowded with people have become rare.

In the past, middle-income citizens used to come in and shop in them, but this year, low-income people are fleeing and people with good incomes are shopping there.

A five-liter bottle of Omar oil is selling for 1,100 birr, which is 50 birr cheaper compared to Sholan and Meri markets.

According to consumers, they come to listen to the singers who come in the evening instead of buying the goods offered for sale in the bazaar.

A father said that he went to the bazaar to buy school supplies for his children, but the prices for bags and lunches were not worth it.

He said that a dozen of 50 page notebooks cost 600 birr and more, which is an increase of 50 to 100 birr compared to Shola and Mercato. 
12 student notebooks are priced from 600 to 700 birr depending on the name of the schools, bags are sold for 1,200 to 3,000 and more, and lunch items are sold for 1,200 and more. 

At Mercato Market and Shola Market, lunch items for students are being sold for between 700 and 1,800 Birr depending on the quality and type of product, while bags are available for 1,200 and more.

In these places, their discount is from 50 Birr to 100 Birr, for example, a 50-page Cinner Lain and double cover dozen notebooks are sold for 500 Birr in Mercato, while it is sold for 600 Birr in Bazaar, and 550 Birr in Shola Market.
