👉 There was a heavy explosion on the hand-held pagers used by Hezbollah members to communicate
Nine people, including a child, were killed in an explosion on hand-held pagers used by members of the armed group Hezbollah to communicate in Lebanon, the country’s health minister said.
The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon was among the wounded.
2,800 people were injured in similar blasts in Beirut and several other regions.
About 200 of the injured were seriously injured.
Iran-backed Hezbollah confirmed the death of eight fighters who were “employees of various Hezbollah units and institutions” in the Pager explosion.
The group blamed Israel for “this criminal attack” and said it expected “just punishment”.
The Israeli military declined to comment on the case. Hours before the explosions, Israel’s security cabinet said it was an official war goal to end Hezbollah attacks in the country’s north in order to allow the safe return of displaced residents.
Since the start of the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, there have been daily exchanges of fire along the Israel-Lebanon border.
Hezbollah said an unspecified number of pagers, which the group relies heavily on for communications, exploded.
Hezbollah relies on these devices because of threats to hack and monitor cellphones in the capital, Beirut, and many other areas.
