It is recalled that the Eritrean Civil Aviation wrote a letter informing that the flight from Ethiopia to Eritrea will be stopped from September 20, 2016.
Today, the airline announced in a statement that it was expecting the decision to be revised and repeated attempts to contact the Eritrean civil aviation authority were unsuccessful.
The CEO of the airline, Ato Mesef, mentioned in his statement that his representative in Asmara was told that money could not be sent to Ethiopia in order to deposit the money collected from the sale.
This happened through a letter dated July 18/2016.
“After August 25, 2016, your account will be blocked and you will not be able to use the opration fee. We have been forced to cancel the flight from today. We were forced to leave because we could not cover the cost of the flight,” they said.
What is the amount of money that the airline is banned from operating?
When this question was asked by the journalists, the CEO refused to disclose the amount of the money and gave an explanation.
Mr. Mesfen stated that the airline has two accounts in Eritrea, one of which is the Naqfa account, which is an old account that cannot be converted into dollars.
The other bank account is in dollars and he has been selling tickets in foreign currency for the past few years.
“They blocked us after they lifted the flight ban,” they said.
Mr. Mesfen added, “If the money is not released to us, it will be a matter between the two countries.”
