Elias Liwi, director general of Addis Ababa University’s Institute of Geophysics, Space Science and Astronomy, told National Television/ETV: “The molten rock that has been making natural movements to rise to the ground for 22 days in Ethiopia’s rift valley has now subsided.”
“According to our current information, the molten rock is going down, as a result of which the earthquake recorded in the last 2 days is low,” he said.
Elias Levi (Dr.) said, “The previous risk has decreased in the past few days, but as we are in the Rift Valley, the risk may return.”
“It is an unchangeable natural fact that the Rift Valley and its surroundings are vulnerable to earthquakes, so as a country, as a people, we need to be careful and prepared,” he said in a statement to the television station.
In the past days and weeks, it is known that there have been frequent earthquakes in the area of Afar, Fentale.
The tremors of the earthquake were felt as far as Addis Ababa and other cities.
