6 Uzbek citizens were arrested by Turkish police at Izmir Airport while trying to smuggle 9 kilos of gold in an unusual and extremely dangerous way.
According to Turkish media reports, the women met a man in a car after entering Turkey from the United Arab Emirates.
But the anti-smuggling unit already had information about the planned smuggling of valuables.
When the women left the airport, the police arrested the man who came to meet them.
A search of the car and passengers’ belongings revealed 82 gold bars weighing 110 grams each, 18 PlayStations and three smart phones.
However, the most shocking discovery was that upon closer inspection, an additional 84 gold bars were surgically placed in the women’s genitals.
As per court orders, the women had to undergo surgery to extract the smuggled gold bars.
The total weight of gold found in their bodies is 9 kg and each woman has more than 1.5 kg of gold.
The smuggled gold, including the one found in the car, amounted to 18.5 kilograms, valued at 55 million Turkish liras, or approximately 1.5 million US dollars.
This case has raised questions among many as to how these women were drawn to this dangerous practice.
It also revealed the scale of the smuggling activity that is developing globally.
In particular, it has been shown that such methods, such as transporting gold in the human body, pose a serious risk to life and health, but are still being used by illegal traffickers.
