Although it is said that an Ethiopian eats 1.2 kilograms of fish per year, it is low compared to other African countries

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the average fish consumption of an Ethiopian has been reduced from 0.5 kg to 1.2 kg in 2014.

Mrs. Tsgerada Fikadu, Executive Director of the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Development, told Bisrat Radio and Television that the annual average consumption of fish meat in other African countries has reached 5.7 kilograms. It has been pointed out that Ethiopia’s per capita consumption of fish meat is extremely low compared to other African countries.

It has been stated that there are problems related to the production and productivity of fish meat and that it has not been possible to improve the per capita consumption as required, and the failure to reproduce fish chicks properly is a major problem in the sector.

On the other hand, the lack of supply of fishing equipment is another problem that is challenging the sector.
.

In this way, Ethiopia is planning to feed fish meat to its citizens in a better way. Its chief executive said that it is planned to produce 2 hundred and 45 thousand tons of fish meat in the future and to increase the consumption of fish meat per capita.
